The Fame

Posted in Art, Updates on February 21, 2010 by Kris

I finally got to check out the “Foot in the Door 4” exhibit today. It was, to say the least, art overload. I tried to take in as much as I could, but by the time I got to the last gallery, my senses had overloaded and I couldn’t even comprehend what I was seeing anymore. I think I need to go back a few times and just take it one gallery at a time. It’s sort of like seeing two museums’ worth of art in a few rooms. In any case, the exhibit is awesome, and there are so many talented artists here in Minnesota. There were a few pieces I wanted to display in my home, that’s for sure!

I took a lot of photos while I was there.

Here’s “Lady Gaga” on the wall amongst other fine works. The piece is located at 346-03, if you’re planning on going to check it out. Basically, once you get up the area where the exhibit is, you’ll see it.

It’s pretty high up on the wall, so this is about as close as I could get to taking a photo next to my work. At least we match. (For the record, I’m wearing my MAC Viva Glam “Gaga” lipstick — I thought it would be appropriate for the occasion.)

A view of the whole wall where my work is.

If you want to see more photos from the exhibit, take a peek over at my Flickr page. I tried to get photos of as much as I could, but it was difficult. I’ll get more next time.

The exhibit runs through June 13th.

Let’s Try This Again…

Posted in Updates on February 19, 2010 by Kris

I sadly was not able to make it to the “Foot in the Door 4” opening last night. I’m battling a terrible cold, and one of my guinea pigs passed away last afternoon (rest in peace, Paul). I wasn’t feeling up to “partying” to say the least.

However, I do plan on going to see the exhibit on Sunday, February 21st. Come see the exhibit with less crowds!

My piece is up on the Minneapolis Institute of Arts website, though! Click here to see my piece directly, or click here to view all of the pieces in the exhibit.

Looks nice when it’s framed, doesn’t it? I’m pretty excited. They don’t have the location up on the site just yet, but I’m sure it will be added soon.

And I Just Can’t Hide It…

The “Foot in the Door 4” exhibit is only a couple of days away, and I’m really excited about it. I haven’t been in an art show in about 10 years. This is definitely the biggest one I’ve been a part of, so it’s very exciting. I also just found out Jake Rudh will be DJ’ing in the lobby for the premiere, which is awesome. He’s the host and DJ for Transmission, the most awesome “dance night” in the Twin Cities (in my humble opinion). He’s also a great guy with incredible taste in music.

For those of you planning to see the exhibit, here’s the piece I’ve submitted:

It’s pretty bright, so it should be easy to spot. I have no idea which gallery it will be in, but after the premiere I will post the details here. And pictures! I plan on taking lots of pictures.

Again, details about the exhibit can be found in one of my previous posts.

“Foot in the Door 4” – One Week To Go!

Posted in Updates on February 12, 2010 by Kris

The “Foot in the Door 4” premiere is in one week! I’m excited.

I found a great photo set on Flickr by erlin1 featuring photos of the volunteers setting up the artwork for the exhibit.

The amount of work is astounding. Apparently, they’ve filled three galleries so far…and they still have a week of hanging to go.

If you’re interested in checking out the exhibit, details can be found in one of my previous posts. I’ll be there opening night, and I think I’ll probably head back later on to see the exhibit when there’s less people around. From what I’ve seen from these photos so far, there’s a lot of fun art in this exhibit. If I see a photo pop up with my piece included, I’ll be sure to post it.

More Gaga

I finished my fifth and sixth illustrations of Lady Gaga for my ongoing series.

“Lady Gaga (Red)”

“Lady Gaga (Purple)”

When my busy schedule dies down a bit, I have ideas for another series (with different subjects, this time) but I haven’t decided if it’s going to be digital  illustrations or painted or what. I’ll see where my inspiration takes me.

Got My Foot In The Door

Posted in Updates on February 9, 2010 by Kris

I brought a framed version of “Lady Gaga” to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts on Sunday for the “Foot in the Door 4” exhibition. The line was like a giant labyrinth of people, and it took over two hours for me to get through the line and drop off my work. It was worth it, though, and I think it’s going to be an awesome exhibit.

Here are some news stories about the exhibit:

“Minnesotans flock to get a ‘Foot in the Door’ at the MIA” (Minnesota Public Radio)

“Minnesota artists put best feet forward at the MIA’s ‘Foot in the Door’ free-for-all” (MinnPost)

“If the art fits, put it in a gallery” (Star Tribune)

Even if you can’t make it to the opening night reception, I hope that anyone in the Twin Cities area will go see this show. I think there’s going to be a lot of really fantastic art on display!

I Guess I’m Ga-Ga For Gaga

Posted in Art, Music on February 3, 2010 by Kris

Apparently I’ve found my newest muse: the awesome Lady Gaga. Sparked by my first illustration of her, I’ve decided to create a series of illustrations based off of her different looks. It’s a fun project, and I’m happy with the results so far.

“Lady Gaga (Blue)”

This one is just a generic, Gaga-with-sunglasses portrayal.

“Lady Gaga (Yellow)”

This one is based off of her look in the last scene of her video for “Paparazzi” where she’s wearing the yellow bodysuit and the sunglasses that look like Mickey Mouse ears. I’m hoping that’s what people see and don’t wonder why she has tumors growing out of her head. Oh well.

I’m hoping to do at least a few more. These are fun.
